With spring here, its a time to start anew. What about taking some great, new family photos? Here are some tips to take great Spring family photos.

Photo Tip #1: Textures

Make sure to try some layers and texture to add some dimension in your pictures! Layer your son with a t-shirt and a denim button down over it, your daughter can try adding a coloured belt for a pop of pizzazz. Spring weather can be unpredictable so layers also help elimatinate the need for bulky jackets! Think hats for boys, a light airy scarf for girls, leggings with a ruffled skirt, necklaces…think layers!

Photo Tip #2: Opt for Complimentary Colours

It could mean a whole host of great colours. One way bring colour stogether is to have one or two people wear a pattern that incorporates your colours and have everyone else wear solids from the same color palette. You’ll look cozy without being too stark.
Try not to mix too many patterns together, especially if you have a small family. It’s a good idea avoideveryone wearing the same white or black shirt with jeans or khakis. Boring – and so overdone! Work in the colour!

Photo Tip #3: Choose Varying Shades of the Same Colour

If you are absolutely set on having everyone where the same colour, add visual interest but mixing various shades of that colour. Royal blue, navy blue, pale blue, etc.

Photo Tip #4: More People = More Colours

If you have a large group, you can get away with more colours. You may want to coordinate – assign each person a colour – so that you don’t end up with only one person picking a particular colour. Mixing colours is fabulous because then everyone matches, but everyone gets to be themselves!

Photo Tip #5: Look Around Your Home

Think about what looks good hanging up in your home. Choose clothing that will compliment the colours in your home so that you can display your photos proudly!

Photo Tip #6: Pick a Neutral

Warm and neutral tones are great any time of year but softer neutrals like a peach colour are wonderful for Spring. Layering is a great way to add some earthy tones to your look.

Photo Tip #8: Location, Location, Location

When planning of your Spring session, think about the location as well when choosing your outfits. The location has a big impact on your photos. If outdoors – will it be nice this time of year or will it be muddy? If indoors, is there enough lighting for a great photo?
