10 Frugal Ways to Organize Your Closet
Ok, so the kids are back in school and you and your significant other are back into the routine of things. It’s time to (cue the drum roll), organize YOUR closet. Yes you, the one cringing at this moment. It’s really not all that hard, trust me!
Tip #1- Donate or Throw Out Clothes That Don’t Fit You
I know this is a hard one; but do you really need that sparkly, sequined jumpsuit from 10 years ago? I didn’t think so either!
Tip #2- Take Out the Clutter
This means take out the dry cleaning hangers you don’t use, the plastic coverings that don’t protect your clothes, things like this. Once you take all the extra out, you will find you have more room.
Tip #3- Use Your Floor Space
Why not? You can use that extra floor space for a nice shoe rack (yay!) or for hiding your kids Christmas and birthday gifts. You can even add a small dresser. It’s awesome!
Tip #4- Put Up Some Lights
If you look at your closet like you are looking into a portal of deep space, then it’s time to add some light to your closet. By simply adding a bit of light, that alone will make it look bigger. That’s definitely a good thing!
Tip #5- Upper Shelf Ahoy!
If you have an upper shelf in your closet, make use of it. Store your purses or other things. Simply add a storage bin or use shelf dividers. You can find dividers for super cheap at hardware stores or the local thrift shop.
Tip #6- Add Some Mirrors
Mirrors are the best thing if you want to make your closet look bigger. They can be attached to the door or put on the inside of the door. Either way is great!
Tip #7- Paint It
Typically, lighter colours work wonders for this. Get a durable paint with a gloss or satin finish. Why a durable paint? Your walls and closet doors will endure a lot of wear and tear.
Tip #8- You Got Corners
You have corners in your closet so use them. You can achieve this by using hanging rods to store things.
Tip #9- Use Your Door
This can be either on the outside or inside of the door. You can use an over-the-door hanger for your shoes or even cheap shelves.
Tip #10- Fully Maximize Your Space
If you buy something new, throw out two old things you don’t use or don’t fit into anymore. This way the old saying “out with the old, in with the new” can be put into practice.
